Printing guide

Paper sizes, settings, and how to print these without wasting half a cartridge.

Pick the right size first

Every file comes in both A4 and US Letter. Use A4 in Europe, the UK, Australia and most of the world; use US Letter in the United States and Canada. The wrong one still prints, but you will get uneven margins.

Settings that matter

  • Scale: 100% or “Actual size”. Not “Fit to page” — that shrinks the sheet and leaves a white border that makes the layout look wrong.
  • Colour vs black and white. These pages are designed to survive greyscale. If you print weekly, use black and white and save the colour cartridge.
  • Double-sided is fine for anything going in a binder, and wasteful for anything you fill in and throw away.

Printing without burning through ink

Set your printer to draft or economy for pages you use daily. The lines are heavy enough to stay legible, and a weekly reset does not need photo quality.

If you print the same page every week, print a month at a time. Fewer warm-up cycles means less ink wasted priming the heads.

Paper worth using

Ordinary 80 gsm copier paper is fine for anything disposable. For a page that lives on the fridge for a month, 100 gsm holds up better against pen pressure and does not curl.

No printer?

Two options. Take the PDF to a print shop on a USB stick or by email — most will do a single page for pocket change. Or skip paper and write on the file in GoodNotes, Notability or any PDF annotation app.
